     Job and Interships

We are neither hiring nor offering any internships at this time. Unless you see a specific posting here, DO NOT send resumes (we keep a file of people who can't follow instructions...). If you are the intern placement coordinator for a school, we do consider accepting interns when we have an existing relationship with the school and have had previous interactions with the intern candidates. This means, if someone from Monster Island is a faculty member, instructor or has done lectures at your school, you may pursue internships through your relationship with that person.

If you are looking to further your recording knowledge and experience, we are developing training and educational programs that will be in the $500-$2000 range. Studio Training.

If you are in NYC and trying to figure out how to get started, this is what we would do if we were in your position.

Start finding bands that need to record get them to decide on a budget and bring them to a studio with yourself as the engineer. Explain that you are doing this instead of an internship and offer the entire budget to the studio booker. Tell them that you would like an engineer present for at least part of the time if not all and that if the budget doesn't allow for the engineer to be present, at least get an assistant.

With this arrangement, you will not make any money, but you will be doing exactly what you want to do, learning from an experienced engineer, developing a demo reel, building a discography and building a relationship with a studio. Any one of these things will get your further than making coffee, running errands and emptying the trash.

Yes, it will be difficult, but this is what you will have to do after your internship if you want to work in a studio recording music and bands (as opposed to post production). Just start that stage now.
