Monster Island has many recording formats: ProTools HD running 7.1, Otari MTR 90 MkII, RADAR (with Nyquist Converters) and ADAT XT-20s (4), and Tascam DA-88s for transfering your old recordings.
Monster Island has developed a unique approach to analog recording for low budget projects. Rather than buying a two inch tape which costs $150/reel for 15 mintues of recording, clients may borrow a two inch tape for tracking and overdubbing. When a keeper track is chosen it can be dumped to to ProTools through the Radar Nyquist Converters (in blind listening tests these are ususally picked as the best sounded converters) which will be recording a signal that has hit analog tape and now has the warm analog sound with analog tape compression. In a sense, the two inch maching becomes an input device. Once in ProTools any digital editing can be done. Mixing is then done through and analog board and compression is supplied buy the real analog compressors that are the ones modeled to make Pro Tools plug-ins.
Loaner analog tapes are supplied during tracking for any sessions eventually going to a digital format. TekServe Firewire drives are the recommened drives for use at Monster Island. If your projet is to short to warrant purchasing an entire drive (about $200) you can pay for hard drive space on house drives.
