"Today I convinced Ben (the drummer) that there is an International Lesbian Handshake," says Claudine Kielson from the stage of Meow Mix in NYCês East Village. 'Let's say you meet a woman and you're not sure about her sexual orientation. You give her the handshake, and if she responds with the same shake, you know she's a lesbian. And he totally believed me," she pauses while the audience laughs knowingly, "Don't feel bad Ben, You're very cute."

This is typical on stage banter from a songwriter whose often humorous lyrics are poetic insights to life love and the pursuit of sex. Though her background was in the classical music her parents insisted she study, Kielson was drawn to artists such as Patti Smith and The Pretenders, as well as secretly loving the Carpenters. She spent her formative years in suburban Chicago with a transistor radio attached to her ear and the dial tuned to DJ Terri Hemmert on WXRT.

At seventeen, Kielson headed to NYC and traded her classical guitar in for a 1966 electric Gibson. Her classical influences followed her from Illinois, and are often reflected in her original compositions. This early background, combined with heavy bass lines, aggressive grooves, and seasoned band mates makes for a unique sound. Bassist Sissi Schulmeister, a graduate of the Academy of Music in Vienna, Austria also hails from a classical guitar background. She was a veteran member of ALICE DONUT (Alternative Tentacles Records), and logged in extensive time on the road, including stints in Europe and Japan. Native New Yorker, Ben Orick, began playing drums as the age of twelve. He has performed with numerous New York bands including, THE NITE CAPS, GIANT METAL INSECTS, and HERITAGE.

Fresh from the studio, CK THRILL has just finished their debut EP entitled MIRIAM DO YOU KNOW, also the title track. The song is about a woman trying to find out if her boyfriend is gay, so she turns to her best friend Miriam, for answer, and as we find out, for kisses as well. All songs were produced by the band. Kielson's goal is to bring her audience with her on a fantastical ride of testing sense of self without fear of what may be found. If all else fails, she would be happy just to rock your world.
